{"id":2163,"date":"2014-07-14T09:50:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-14T16:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raisingspecialkids.net\/?p=2163"},"modified":"2022-03-04T15:04:28","modified_gmt":"2022-03-04T22:04:28","slug":"i-can-do-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raisingspecialkids.net\/es\/2014\/07\/14\/i-can-do-this\/","title":{"rendered":"\u200bI Can Do This!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Chris had to think pretty hard about how she originally found Raising Special Kids. \u201cIt was a really, really long time ago, \u201c she laughed, thinking of the journey through her son\u2019s elementary, middle and high school years. \u201cI think it was our doctor who referred us, or was it the school?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That time period was a bit of a blur. Her son Taylor did not have a definitive medical diagnosis, and her family was having a hard time with his school. \u201cThe parent-to-parent connection was especially helpful as were the staff assistance with school and medical issues and finding lots of resources,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abLike many parents, sometimes I wanted to deal head-on with an issue and other times I\u2019d just want to bury my head in the sand. Those were the times I just needed someone to listen.\u201d Chris recalls the training and consultation she received helped her gain confidence in advocating for her son. When she went to meetings then began to feel, \u201cI can do this!\u201d And it worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today Taylor is doing well and Chris is very proud. \u201cHe\u2019s a really great kid \u2013 full of love and he\u2019s so happy! It makes me feel good I stuck to my guns. The support I got from Raising Special Kids really helped me to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Chris began to help others as a parent-to-parent mentor, she said, \u201cI learned so many things from other parents.\u201d We salute Chris for her accomplishments and the difference she has made for Taylor and for many other families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00abLike many parents, sometimes I wanted to deal head-on with an issue and other times I\u2019d just want to bury my head in the sand.
